Mykita Wins iF Product Design Award

The iF Product Design Award in the ‘lifestyle’ category has recently been given to the Berlin-based eyewear manufacturer, Mykita. It was the DRIES sunglasses model of the company’s COLLECTION NO2 that was accountable for their winning of the award. Many believe that it was the characteristic of the model’s new concept hinge that made the design special and perhaps better amongst the rest. The DRIES sunglasses and its groundbreaking hinge from Mykita were chosen by judges composed of designers and the major players in the design industry.

In Mykita’s COLLECTION NO2, the models of the sunglasses are built with a screwless hinge system which is patented to Mykita. This hinge system is the result of the use by the company’s engineers and designers of a forefront metal injection molding. As a result, the sunglasses can be worn at the easiest and most comfortable way due to the model’s flex-hinge effect. The breakthrough is considered by many as the perfect combination of aesthetics and technology which clearly depicts Mykita’s philosophy in branding and styling.

The iF Product Design Award has been given as recognition to brands or companies for their breakthroughs in innovation and design for over 50 years. Along with the Red Dot design award, the IF Product Design Award is one of the most important awards that are given to product design internationally. Most creative directors and designers see the award as the ultimate recognition of great design.

This award is surely a testament to Mykita’s brilliance and cleverness in creating groundbreaking sunglasses designs. Having already won the “Oscar” of design awards, we just can’t help but wonder what’s next for this company in the future.
